About the Item

Designed by Gijs Bakker in the early 1970s for Dutch manufacturer Castelijn, the “Strip” dining set is an iconic expression of radical minimalism and postmodern sculptural form. Comprising a dining table and four matching chairs, the set is made entirely of dark-stained, laminated slats of wood — a construction technique that both names and defines the collection. The chairs feature a continuous ribbon-like silhouette with curved backs and legs, cut and bent from stacked wooden strips, offering a surprisingly ergonomic and visually unified profile. The rectangular table echoes this sculptural logic, with its signature leg cut-outs and slab-like proportions anchoring the composition. The set is in good vintage condition, with some visible traces of wear including surface scratches, slight fading, and tonal variation in the wood — all consistent with age and use. Structurally sound and fully functional, it retains its bold visual presence and remains a collectible example of Bakker’s early work. Perfect for sculptural modernist interiors, creative dining areas, or as a standout postmodern collectible in a design-conscious environment. Set Includes: 1 dining table + 4 side chairs. Dimensions: Table height 73 cm, width 170 cm, depth 85 cm. Chairs height 76 cm, width 44 cm, depth 48 cm, seat height 43 cm.

Set of 8 Dialogo Chairs by Afra & Tobia Scarpa for B & B Italia, 1970s
By Afra & Tobia Scarpa, B&B Italia
Located in PRAHA 5, CZ
Designed in the early 1970s by the visionary duo Afra and Tobia Scarpa, the Dialogo chair is a masterclass in quiet complexity. This set of eight exemplifies the pair’s commitment to structural clarity and understated luxury — a dialogue between geometry, material, and human presence. The sculptural black lacquered frames contrast elegantly with the warm brown leather seats, which show just the right amount of wear to speak of authenticity without distraction. Precision-cut joints, fluid contours, and a balanced tension between line and volume reflect the Scarpas’ architectural...

Designed by Swedish design favourites of the 50s and 60s, Johan Huldt and Jan Dranger, these chairs were built to be an ode to the DIY ethos, thanks to their industrial yet youthful aesthetic through canvas and steel tubes. The chairs were made in yellow, orange, green, brown and black. In 1968, Huldt and Dranger established the company Innovator. In the early 1970s, Dranger and Huldt were very successful with furniture in strong steel tubes and lamps of an industrial character, painted in strong colours. A big seller was the Stuns chair...
