They are excellent examples of attention to detail and a fabulous example of the timeless and classical workmanship of the era. Frem Rojle was a very respected designer who concieved these for Hans Olsen. Mid-Century Modern Furniture: Mid-Century Modern furniture is a style of minimalist furniture and housewares originating in Denmark and associated initially with the Danish design movement. As far back as the 1920s, Kaare Klint embraced the principles of Bauhaus modernism in furniture design, creating clean, pure lines based on an understanding of classical furniture craftsmanship coupled with careful research into materials, proportions and the requirements of the human body. Mid-Century Modern This style of furniture thrived from the 1940s through the 1960s. and it’s execution concentrates on form rather than just function. Danish housewares even adopted a similar minimalist design: items as varied as cutlery and trays of teak and stainless steel. This expanded the Danish modern aesthetic well beyond furniture. Mid-Century Modern is an architectural, interior, product and graphic design term that describes mid-20th century developments in modern design, architecture and urban development from roughly 1933-1965. The term, was coined as early as the mid-1950s, and was reaffirmed in 1983 by Cara Greenberg in the title of her book, “Mid-Century Modern: Furniture of the 1950s”. The book celebrates the style that is now fully recognized by scholars and museums worldwide as a significant design movement. Teak Teak (Tectona grandis) is a tropical hardwood tree species placed in the plant family Lamiaceae. Tectona grandis is a large, deciduous (leaf losing) tree that occurs in mixed hardwood forests. It has small, fragrant white flowers and large papery leaves that are often hairy on the lower surface. It is sometimes, but not always, known as the “Burmese teak”. Teak wood has a leather-like smell when it is freshly milled. It is particularly valued for its durability and water resistance, and is used for boat building, exterior construction, veneer, furniture, carving, turnings, and other small wood projects. The wood of the teak tree is a preferential material and is used for making decking for boats, furniture and other things which generally require resistance to the elements. Although it is used for outdoor furniture, teak is not recommended for complete sun exposure. Being more expensive than most other woods, teak furniture has become something of a status symbol. Not only is it common for a teak bench, chair, or table to last 70 years with the correct care plan, it is also common to pass down such furniture to future generations as an heirloom.
