18th Century George III Period Mahogany Five Pedestal Dining Table

$183,760.35

About

18th century George III period mahogany antique dining table standing on five pedestals, each with four splay base. This is an exceptionally rare table, the quality of which very rarely comes on the market. The timber has a rich and interesting grain pattern and the top has faded to a desirable golden brown honey color with lots of character and wonderful patina. The bases are an elegant and generous shape with a long and generous leg which terminates with an interesting caster cap with hairy foot and Doric capitol motif. The pedestals are a perfect proportion with precision turned rings and each made from a solid piece of timber. The removable leaves are missing, they will be replaced with new ones made from period timber which ensures a perfect match and means that the final length can be tailored to order. The existing five tops and bases are all original to the table. These photographs are an artists impression of how the table will look when restored to seat twenty. This is a very impressive table of fabulous proportions the quality of which exceeds those we have seen in the most historically important English country houses. English, circa 1790 Measures: 146cm / 57½" wide 74cm / 29" high 323cm 127" without leaves 550cm / 18' long approx to order.
