1930's Art Deco Dining Occasional or Hall Table by Maison Dominique, France.

About the Item

This table was manufactured by Maison Dominique, France circa 1930 and is a versatile table that can be used as an occasional dining table or hall table. Andre Domin & Marcel Genevriere set up the Maison Dominique company and designed the furniture. The top is supported by lyre shaped end supports joined by a stretcher. The table bears the Maison Dominique stamp under the tabletop. Maison Dominique (André Domin (1883-1962) et Marcel Genevrière (1885-1967) Maison Dominique was created in 1922 by two young decorators, André Domin and Marcel Genevrière. Dominique put up its repute through the creation of its proper aesthetic showing a slight cubist influence, a strong will to put aside past styles while keeping an elegant weft. Throughout its history, Maison Dominique took part in numerous exhibitions, starting with the Salon d’automne of 1922. The success they acquired during this first exhibition allowed them to design the small salon of the private apartments of a French Embassy at the 1925 Decorative Arts Exhibition. In 1926, together with Jean Puiforcat, Pierre Chareau, Pierre Legrain and the jeweller Raymond Templier and Maison Dominique created the « Group of Five », designing furniture and exhibiting as a group. In 1933, the duo was honoured to be commissioned to design and furnish one of the four luxury suites of the Normandie cruise boat. After WW2, the French Republic commissioned furniture for the Elysée Palace.
