1950s Brazilian Design Extending Dining Table by Celina Decorações

About the Item

1950s Brazilian Design Extending Dining Table by Celina Decorações Fold our extension leaf contained within the structure of the table, underneath the table top, which adds 50 cm, making the table 249 cm long. Celina Decorações Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo CELINA ZYLBERBERG's design, together with Sérgio Rodrigues' Oca, were responsible for the innovation of modern furniture in the 1960s, a genuinely Brazilian concept. Celina was a founding partner of the Boa Vista tapestry, one of the most famous textile industries in Rio de Janeiro for decades. In the early 1960s, his son Muniz Zylberberg, with an eye on the growing modern furniture market, transformed the fabric factory into a chain of wooden furniture stores, specializing in Rosewood, and renamed it Celina Móveis e Decorações. Focused on austere administration to allow the expansion of the number of stores, the production of Celina's modern furniture was cheaper than that of Tenreiro and Sérgio Rodrigues but with comparable quality of execution and finishing. Celina Decorações had stores in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro and in addition to producing pieces in series, they also made a series of customizations to their furniture to suit the interior projects that they offered to customers. In the 1970s it provided a line of office furniture. With the implementation of many hotel chains and apart hotels, the group specialized in institutional interiors: Othon, Caesar Park. Responsible for the furniture at the Hotel Intercontinental Rio, in the 1970s, he also carried out its renovation on the eve of the Panamericano. His sons, designers Muniz and Alexander Zylberberg, headed the Celina brand, ensuring that they remained on the market for 20 years, being one of the favorite furniture stores of Rio's upper-middle class.
