A 1950s 'Orkidea' (Orchid) Glass Vase by Timo Sarpaneva for Iittala, Finland. Originally designed in 1953, the piece was initially intended as a sculpture, for which the artist was awarded a Gand Prix at the X Milan Triennale, in 1954. Produced by Iittala between 1954 and 1972, the model was executed in various sizes. Engraved 'Timo Sarpaneva 3568' at the bottom.

    Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. In good condition with signs of wear consistent with age. Some tiny fleabite nibbles around the base (illustrated in the photos), only on very close inspection, and not visible when displayed normally.

    A Set of 5 Art Glass Pieces designed in 1950s by Erik Hoglund (1932-1998) for the iconic Swedish glass factory Boda. Measures: Rectangular pieces 11 cm wide x 9 cm deep x 3 cm high, circular pieces 7 cm diameter x 3 cm high. Erik Höglund was studied at Konstfack in Stockholm, first decorative painting with Fritz Sjöström, then sculpture with Robert Nilsson and finally graphic design 1951-1952 with Harald Sallberg. Recruited by Erik Rosén, he was an associate designer at the Boda glassworks from 1953 to 1973 and, during this period, transformed Swedish art glass production by introducing new ideas about the appearance of glass products.. While in Boda, he also worked with pine, wrought iron and furniture. Later he also collaborated with other glassworks, such as Pukeberg, Lindshammar and Studioglas Strömbergshyttan. In 1968 he founded the design company Backström & Höglund Design AB together with the glass artist Monica Backström, with the mission to design furniture, household utensils and utensils for the public environment.     A 1970s studio pottery vase by Carn, Cornwall. Rare hand built, facetted wood-cut mould design. With raised tubeline decoration and moss coloured highlight glaze to three sides, and blue glaze to the back. We have two of these vases as illustrated. This listing is for one vase but the second vase is available to buy separately in or other listings. The one you see here is on the left hand side in the photo of the pair. Carn is the only surviving pottery out of the iconic 1960’s and 1970’s Trio of Cornish potteries – Carn, Tremaen and Tremar. The Pottery was established in an old chapel by John Beusmans in 1971 in the village of Nancledra near St. Ives in Cornwall. John studied at Redruth Art College with his parents encouragement. His parents owned a retail pottery shop which exposed John to a lot of Cornish pottery styles. (Incidentally his parents also made the lamp shades for the renowned Troika lamp...
