19th Century Portefeuille Dining Table

About the Item

This unusual 'Portefeuille' dining table features an ingenious and functional expansion system, with a top tray that slides to the side and unfolds to create a larger dining area. Simple and elegant in design, this rectangular table stands on two elaborately carved baluster legs and splayed feet, connected by a plain stretcher. The table dates from the 19th century, and is fitted with an original manufacturer's plate bearing the name of the renowned Cannes furniture makers “Galeotti Frères”, who operated from 47 Rue Georges Clemenceau from 1876 to 1947, and who made furniture for the royal families of Monaco and Russia, among other prestigious clients. The table is in wonderful antique condition - its carved details highlighting its lustrous sheen - and is ready to welcome a new generation of diners.
