About the Item
Designed by the legendary Adrian Pearsall, this brutalist dining table base was his answer to Evans’ high-end, sculptural designs—because not everyone could afford a one-of-a-kind welded masterpiece straight from the PE workshop. But let’s be clear: just because it was designed to be more affordable doesn’t mean it isn’t a total showstopper.
This H-shaped base is dripping in swirls, stars, and almost tribal-looking motifs, all cast in a gray-silver resin that’s been applied over a wooden frame. The result? A textural, sculptural masterpiece that looks like it was excavated from the ruins of some futuristic, mid-century utopia.
Here’s where it gets even better: this particular table has been customized with steel rods, professionally inserted and sunken into the base to loft the glass tabletop, giving it a floating effect that is straight-up sorcery. It’s light, airy, and a serious upgrade from its original design. (We can have these professionally removed and patched to be unnoticeable if wanted, but we think it looks fabulous).

Who Was Adrian Pearsall?
If you don’t already know Adrian Pearsall, allow us to introduce you. A mid-century design icon, he was known for his wildly sculptural furniture—think swooping walnut sofas, atomic-age coffee tables, and dramatic seating that makes your average mid-century chair look like it needs a personality transplant. He founded Craft Associates in the 1950s and quickly became a household name in American modernism.
And Speaking of Paul Evans…
Paul Evans was the mad scientist of mid-century brutalism, merging furniture and sculpture into a genre-defying art form. His welded steel, sculpted bronze, and hand-patinated furniture from the 1960s and ‘70s are still some of the most coveted pieces in the collector world. Evans’ work was brutal, organic, and futuristic all at once, and it makes sense that Pearsall took notes from his playbook when designing this table.
This isn’t just a table. It’s mid-century design history. It’s functional sculpture. It’s a conversation piece that says, “Yes, I have impeccable taste”. Adrian Pearsall
Adrian Pearsall designed some of the most exuberant and expressive American chairs, sofas and other furniture of the 1950s and ’60s. For verve and vivacity of form, he surpasses even Vladimir Kagan — whose work is the emblem of swinging, sexy mid-20th century modernism. Pearsall gave his imagination free rein, and his flamboyant, eye-catching styles are icons of what has become known as “Atomic Age” design.
Pearsall studied architectural engineering at the University of Illinois before opening his Pennsylvania furniture company, Craft Associates, in 1952, and that training shows in many designs.
A Pearsall trademark, for example, is a lounge chair with an exceptionally tall, trapezoidal back, which give the pieces a skyscraper-like silhouette. Pearsall also had a talent for so-called Gondola sofas — long, low-slung pieces with upswept ends. Many of Pearsall’s sofas and chairs are supported not by legs, but on gently arced walnut skids.
Pearsall had a gift for tables, too, in particular glass-topped side tables and coffee tables with frames that have the look of an Alexander Calder stabile. This table is absolutely gorgeous. It's a cast metal body with what a cold cast bronze outer shell. This one of a kind, custom piece came out of an estate in the Pacific Palisades filled with the most incredible furniture by Paul Evans, Daniel Gluck and Italian designer pieces. Unfortunately we have been unable to identify the creator of this piece, but it is very much in the style of Paul Evans and his cold cast bronze line for Directional.
The table base measures 56" L x 24" D x 28.25" T. The glass on the table base is also custom, 3/4" thick with docked corners for a very unique look when up close and personal. This table is remarkably sturdy, and very heavy.
This unique table would also look incredible as a writing desk. This incredible table is currently in the gallery paired with like designer pieces by Paul Evans, and Silas Seandel, but would also look wonderful paired with more contemporary pieces like Milo Baughman thin line chairs...

Available right now we have this increasingly rare, mid century modern, brutalist disc bar by Adrian Pearsall for Craft Associates. This brutalist wall mounted disc cabinet is definitely a conversation piece-- stretching a whopping 48" in diameter, this disc dar opens to reveal a mirrored back as well as 2 shelf inserts.
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and this entire brutalist line of furniture appears to have (pretty obviously) been inspired by American craft movement designer Paul Evans, who designed nearly identical pieces which were available through Directional Furniture to the trade in the 1960's and 1970's.
While this piece doesn't have the pedigree of an original Paul Evans piece, what is does have is an abundance of over-the-top maximalist style with a much more palatable price tag.
Without being mounted to the wall, this piece was a little tougher than an average piece to photograph, but for scale purposes we photographed it resting on the floor alongside a Fabricius and Kastholm grasshopper...
