Antique French Hunt Wake Dining Table Oak Drop Leaf Gate Leg LARGE Kitchen. Direct from France, and one of our customer’s most sought-after table designs, a HUGE, drop leaf, gate leg “wake” or “hunt” table. The design of these tables makes them so versatile, as they are VERY SLENDER, but VERY LONG in length, with oversized leaves that can be opened to create an extremely large table when needed. THIS TABLE IS A MASSIVE LENGTH WITH HUGE LEAVES AND transforms into approx. 7 ft. x 5 ft. tabletop size! Another design feature, there are dual supporting gates for each leaf, which allows for more leg/chair room than a traditional gate leg, and these also provide additional support for the weight of the leaves. Certainly, this table is well suited for a dining table, but there are so many other possibilities, such as a kitchen island/work area and as a sofa table behind a large sofa, with occasional use of the outer leaf for entertaining! Extremely versatile, and always a conversation starter, as most don’t know why they were known as a “wake” table or “hunt” table!!! Quality throughout, very heavy, and solid; well built by craftsmen of the period, circa1890. Measurements: 30” ht. x 82.5” (ALMOST 7 ft. length) x 22.5” (SUPER SLENDER WITH LEAVES DOWN.
