About the Item
Antique French Louis XIV Draw Leaf Banquet Table combines timeless styling with incredible versatility to create the perfect dining table! When closed, it is just under six feet in length, but with both leaves drawn out it extends to over eleven feet in length to accommodate lots of guests, then just as quickly tuck back in to reclaim precious floor space. The main top features a large format checkerboard pattern created with grain orientation. The apron is fully carved all around with an interesting combination of geometric trim and stylized florals and foliates. A fully carved trestle connects the legs below, carved with the ageless Baroque motifs of shell and acanthus plumes. The leg supports on both ends, however, truly steal the show! Fully molded even on the insides, the outsides feature stunning mythological scenes with figures and animals set in a boldly molded framework, which is in turn flanked by boldly scrolled corbels cared with acanthus plumes in full relief. The bases under the legs are works of art unto themselves, with elegantly scrolled form, detailing, and acanthus plumes again in bold relief.
