About the Item

Bent Helweg-Møller, dining or center table, mahogany, brass, Denmark, 1923-1927 This exquisite table, crafted by Danish designer Bent Helweg-Møller during the Art Deco period, is a rare and remarkable piece of design history. Created between 1923 and 1927 for Heerings House, a distinguished residential family home in Copenhagen, the table showcases the impeccable craftsmanship of its time. Executed in rich mahogany, the table showcases elegance and intrigue. The bold yet refined design is complemented by a patinated brass cross fitting, which is further adorned with intricate brass inlays, adding luster and geometric harmony. The combination of fine materials and meticulous detailing reflects the essence of Art Deco furniture design. Heering House (Heerings Gård) is a Neoclassical residence overlooking the scenic Christianshavn Canal in Copenhagens historic Christianshavn neighborhood. Completed in 1785, the building embodies the elegance and architectural refinement of its time. In 1926–1927, a lateral wing was thoughtfully added to the rear of the house, designed by architect Bent Helweg-Møller (1883–1956). This addition seamlessly blends with the original structure, preserving its historical charm while introducing elements of early 20th-century design. The project was an uncommon Danish take on Swedish Grace, merging neoclassical elegance with contemporary and decorative accents. In 1977, the Private Bank (Privatbanken) acquired Heering House, later leasing parts to the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 1999, the Nordea Foundation took ownership and from 2008 to 2011 it underwent an DKK 100 million renovation. Bent Helweg-Møller (1883–1956) was a Danish architect whose work spanned several important influential design movements, from Arts & Crafts and Jugendstil to Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and ultimately modernism. His architectural style evolved over the years, reflecting the changing ideals of the 20th century in architecture and furniture design. The mahogany used for this piece does not require an export license.
