Chippendale, Waring and Gillow Large 8ft Mahogany Extending Dining Table c1905

About the Item

A Waring and Gillow dining table, in Chippendale taste, circa 1905 Edwardian period. This large extending dining table constructed in quality mahogany with ash secondary timbers. The oblong shaped top with rounded corners and gadroon moulded edge. The table extends by way of telescopic bearer stretchers, all of which are constructed in ash. The two additional leaves can be removed and the table reduced in length. Original Joseph Fitter patent winder mechanism with handle. The table is raised on carved cabriole legs on ball and claw feet with hidden castors. Ivorine plague which details "Waring & Gillow of Liverpool, Appointment to the King", on the inside of one of the telescopic stretchers. Plus the top of both telescopic stretchers are stamped "Waring & Gillow L'pool". At just a shade under 8 feet in length this table will comfortably seat 8 people. 10 at a push using smaller chairs. (The chairs on the picture are very wide at 54.5 cm (21.5")). A superb table, completely original and unmolested. Extremely heavy, as was made to the highest standards and only used the best quality timbers available. There are some marks in the top, but as this is the original polish we have left it as is. In very good working condition and presents very well. Should you require the top to be repolished we can do this. Please contact us to discuss. The chairs in the pictures are a set of eight Waring and Gillow of the same period. Comprising 2 carvers and 6 chairs. Also available for sale. **More Pictures Available on Request** Dimensions: This table measures approximately 76 cm (30") tall, 242 cm (95.25") long fully extended, and 151 cm (59.5") long with no additional leaves, 122 cm (48") deep. The addition leaves measure 45.5 cm (18") wide each. The clearance under the table is 61 cm (24"). Condition: Please see the pictures for details of the items condition. - This table is in a very good condition structurally , commensurate with its age, and very sound and sturdy, with no loose joints. There are some marks and blemishes, on the top including a 2 by 2 and half inch spot in the polish on one end leaf, and a scratch in the corner of the opposing end leaf, see pictures. The colour is good overall, and has aged/toned very attractively. The castors and mechanism all work well. Very well presented. Carefully serviced in our workshop, sensitively cleaned, waxed and now very much ready for use. - As with all vintage & antique furniture there will be signs of use, marks, wear & tear, etc.
