Tribal Blackened Oak and Steel Table by Autonomous Furniture
By Kirk Van Ludwig, Autonomous Furniture
Located in Victoria, BC
The Tribal Table uses large scale hot-rolled steel, the concept, albeit not literal, is for the front of the table to represent the bow of a ship, and the back legs the rudder. These 3/8” thick hot-rolled steel legs are not symmetrical but rather slightly offset to deliver tension between the fore and aft ends. Designer Kirk Van Ludwig chooses metal plate that has natural patina during the rolling process, showing hints of mill scale and deep colour revealing depth and story, inspired by massive ocean freightliners. The Tribal tabletop in torched and fumed oak uses ancient Japanese shou-sugi-ban technique with a proprietary finish developed at Autonomous Furniture for a lifelong finish. The Tribal table is equally suitable as a dramatic dining table or elevated home office desk. Modern blackened wood and raw steel table...

Alexandra Round Solid Wood and Steel Dining Table by Autonomous Furniture
By Autonomous Furniture, Kirk Van Ludwig
Located in Victoria, BC
A dramatic round table featuring a solid wood tabletop, shown in Torched Oak, set on a thick blackened steel base. The curved conical base is meticulously curved and joined to create a virtual seamless connection, acting as a sculptural form. The 8-degree taper helps form depth and an intrinsic value to the piece. Designer Kirk Van Ludwig wanted the table balanced allowing for a person to sit on the end of the table without any movement, this was achieved through the use of 3/8” thickness and a large steel flange. The Alexandra table...

Monumental Custom Granite and Steel Dining Table by Anthony Lumsden, 1970s
Located in Los Angeles, CA
A jaw dropping monumental granite slab and steel dining table by famed Los Angeles architect Anthony Lumsden - custom designed and crafted for his Los Angeles home in the 1970s. Sleek, modern yet a subtle statement piece, partially due to its large size for such heavy materials, but also for its vibrant deep granite veining which reflects light in a shimmering fashion. *Note, we have this very discounted prior to our upcoming move. Once we ship this table to our new location we will be removing the sale price so take advantage of the incredible deal while it lasts! The thick and large granite slab is heavy with no-doubt, the large chromed steel frame is also very heavy in its own regard - a sign of the quality materials he used. To re-create this staggering piece today would be costly and painfully difficult. Acquiring this dining table, which would also make an incredible conference table as well, is a great opportunity for a collector or architecture aficionado to own something truly unique and special - and something that will stand the test of time. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Anthony Lumsden was a famed American architect most noted for his sculptural futuristic designs with numerous projects in Southern California such as the Tillman Water Reclamation Plant, often seen in Hollywood films and television shows such as Star Trek Next Generation...
