Custom Large 26 ft. Mahogany Georgian Style Dining Table by Leighton Hall
About the Item
This is a made-to-order large traditional mahogany banquet/dining table made in the Leighton Hall shop. It features a field of slip-matched swirly crotch mahogany from west Africa with a contrasting border separated by an ebony and white maple Inlay line. It has a hand rubbed and polished semigloss finish. The four birdcage style pedestals have four columns with fluted legs which terminate with antique brass lions paw feet.
Pictures are for general reference. They are stock pictures of the 28 ft. table.
Dimensions: 52 in. x 89 in. With four 44.5 in. Leaves and two 22.25 in. Leaves (total length with leaves inserted is 311.5 in.(26ft. +/-)). All dimensions are approximate.
The table is assembled in sections with 54” metal bars which connect each section.
The table can be set up in a vary of configurations and lengths including:
1. Fully expanded(maximum): two 44.5” ends + two 22.25” leaves + four 44.5” sections. Total is 311.5” with four pedestals. As requested.
2. Two ends + one 22.25” leaf. Total is 111.25”. Two pedestals. As requested.
Other: It can be expanded or contracted by adding or subtracting leaves and/or sections to give a variety of sizes. The first number in the ( x/x ) is number of 22.25” leaves The second number is number of 44.5” sections. For example: (1/1) is one leaf and one section. Selected size configurations: 89”(0/0); 111.25”(1/0); 133.5”(0/1); 178”(0/2); 222.5”(0/3);, 267”(0/4); or 311.5”(2/4). The number and position of pedestals will vary. Pedestals will have to be repositioned when a configuration is changed.
Setting up and changing the configuration will require at least two experienced people and power screwdrivers, etc.

Georgian drop leaf dining tables of this design are relatively common to find, however it is rare to find one of this size and in this condition, which retains such a fabulous colour and patina. It is also quite nice to find an oval one, which is not far off being circular when extended.
This is a superb example of its type, constructed from what would have been the absolute best solid mahogany available in the mid 18th century and because of that the table is still as fit for purpose as the day it was made. It is particularly solid even with the moving legs fully extended and this allows for great functionality.
Of course another tick on the desirability scale for this table is that it can be easily folded down and even pushed against a wall, or into a corner when not in full use, meaning one does not require such a large dining room as may otherwise have been required. The table also retains a fabulous untouched colour and patina and has very clearly not ever been stripped and repolished or anything like that.
