Dining table, "Type 100", René Gabriel, 1940s, France

About the Item

This iconic “Type 100” dining table was designed by René Gabriel in the 1940s. A true testament to post-war design, this piece perfectly embodies the functional and sturdy aesthetic characteristic of Reconstruction-era furniture. Crafted from solid oak, it features a rectangular tabletop with clean lines, resting on four splayed legs connected by crossbars. The subtly carved details beneath the tabletop add a touch of elegance to its otherwise simple and authentic look. René Gabriel, a key figure in French design, is renowned for his post-World War II creations from the Reconstruction period, designed to meet the needs of the time while remaining timeless. This table is a perfect example of his rational and elegant approach to furniture making. In very good vintage condition, with a beautiful patina that enhances the richness of the wood. The tabletop shows a few minor signs of use, along with a small old repair that is barely visible and does not affect its charm or sturdiness.
