About the Item

Called a table de chasse in French, or hunt table, this French oak table from the turn of the twentieth century was originally designed to lay out the game after the hunt and features a hinged top that allows the surface to double in width when unfolded. The iron hinges are embedded into the tabletop and when opened, the sides rest on pulls that provide additional support. Its four turned legs are joined by a lower H stretcher and rest on bun feet. Ideal as a sofa table or console table when closed, this piece can also serve as an additional dining table when accommodating guests. Width is 17.5 inches when closed and 35 inches when open, circa 1900.
