French Oak Long Dining Table Constructed from 17th Century Elements

About the Item

French oak seven foot long dining table constructed from 17th century altar rail and balusters. We had this 17th century altar rail for many years and expected to use it on our balcony, but never got around to doing that. It was such a wonderful rail and balusters that we decided to make it more usable by making it into a dining table. The carved arches under the rail are beautifully carved and originally connected with hand-turned balusters (now the legs of the table). We used the rail where parishioners used to rest their elbows in prayer, as the long edges of the table. The center boards of the table are wide American white oak from New Hampshire. This table graciously seats eight. This is such a heavy table that we made the top removable for easier transport. 17th century elements.
