Gijs Bakker for Castelijn 'Strip' Dining Table in Oak

About the Item

Gijs Bakker for Castelijn, 'Strip' dining table, oak, The Netherlands, design 1974. This table is designed by the Dutch furniture and jewellery designer Gijs Bakker. The dining table is designed in 1974 and distinguishes itself by means of the bent, open triangle shaped legs that are placed inwards at the corners and hence 'cut out' a space from the table top itself. This playful detail is in fact the defining design element of this otherwise simplistic, modest table. Bakker also designed a set of chairs for his Strip collection for Castelijn, these chairs are in the design collection of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Please note that this item is in good, used condition.

Hans J. Wegner 'CH327' Dining Table in Oak and Soap for Carl Hansen & Son The story of Danish Modern begins in 1908 when Carl Hansen opened his first workshop. His firm commitment to beauty, comfort, refinement, and craftsmanship is evident in iconic pieces designed by such legends as Hans J. Wegner, Arne Jacobsen, Kaare Klint, Poul Kjærholm, Vilhelm Lauritzen and others. Now in its third generation as a family run business, Carl Hansen & Son maintains its legacy through skillful work with the highest quality materials, sustainably producing Danish design classics by past icons and influential new designers. Originally designed in 1962 by legendary creator Hans J. Wegner, the 'CH327' table appears to float above the frame courtesy of wonderfully tapered edges which add to this table's appeal. Smooth clean lines express a delicate yet confident piece resulting in an alluring table...
