Glass Dining Table with Lacquered Sculptural Base Attributed to Alberto Churba

About the Item

This Modern glass dining table, attributed to Argentinian designer Alberto Churba, exemplifies his innovative approach to South American Modernism. Crafted in 1965, the table features a dark brown lacquered base composed of two curved sections with ribbed detailing, allowing for multiple configurations. The rounded glass top, with its oblong shape and mid-century modern angularity, complements the sculptural base. The base has some chipping to the lacquer. Photos can be provided by request. Alberto Churba (born 1932) is a prominent figure in Argentine design, known for his work in furniture, textiles, and homewares. He co-founded Estudio CH (Centro de Arte y Diseño), specializing in these areas and leaving a lasting impact with his unique style. Churba's designs have been showcased in esteemed institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Notably, his "Cinta 5" armchair (1968–69) is part of MoMA's collection. His work was also featured in the exhibition "Crafting Modernity: Design in Latin America, 1940–1980." This table reflects Churba's commitment to blending aesthetic appeal with functional design, making it a significant piece for collectors and enthusiasts of modernist furniture.
