James Evanson Studio African Mahogany Bone Insets Dining Table 1987

About the Item

A beautiful Art Deco Revival dining table from the New York Studio of James Evanson commissioned in the mid 1980s. The table top is quartered in opposing veneers of African Mahogany. The edge is decorated with a silver leafed half round band . Two pairs of turned urn shaped supports rest in gilded turned cups set into raised gilt panel bases. The top has a center ring of bone pins which match up with the lines of ivory pins on the leaves to form a long oval when one or both 20" leaves are in place. A great table in very good restored condition "JAMES EVANSON (1946 - 2022) an American artist, architect, and furniture designer based in New York and Santa Fe, was born in Montana. Evanson was at the forefront of the “functional art” movement worldwide. His work has travelled worldwide since his first exhibition in 1979 at the Art et Industrie Gallery in New York. New work was created for the Memphis Collection in Milan for the occasion. His “Lighthouse” lamps gained international acclaim and became an icon of the 1980s." (Encyclopedia of Design).
