The 1980s saw Evanson experimenting with exotic woods and natural materials, and this dining table exemplifies his mastery—combining African mahogany’s richness with decorative bone inlays that evoke a sense of craftsmanship and global inspiration. Condition: Excellent restored condition with minor signs of age and wear, which add to the piece’s authenticity and character. The table top is quartered in opposing veneers of African Mahogany. The edge is decorated with a silver leafed half round band . Two pairs of turned urn shaped supports rest in gilded turned cups set into raised gilt panel on cube bases. The top has a center ring of bone pins which match up with the lines of bone pins on the leaves to form a long oval when one or both 20" leaves are in place. A great table in very good restored condition "JAMES EVANSON (1946 - 2022) an American artist, architect, and furniture designer based in New York and Santa Fe, was born in Montana. Evanson was at the forefront of the “functional art” movement worldwide. His work has travelled worldwide since his first exhibition in 1979 at the Art et Industrie Gallery in New York. New work was created for the Memphis Collection in Milan for the occasion. His “Lighthouse” lamps gained international acclaim and became an icon of the 1980s." (Encyclopedia of Design).
