K i m o n o Two drum pedestals connected by a massive tenon.

About the Item

The kimono table features a very substantial tenon mortised into two large, round drums, shown here in American Cherry. This 8' tenon is intended to support a top at least 10' in length. Glass top may be added to listing upon request. All of William's pieces are made to order, and the Kimono may be adapted to different size tops. If the finishes shown are not quite perfect, William delights in drawing from his over 100 finishes to find the one that is. About William Earle Producer Joel Silver ( Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, The Matrix ) purchased William's first functional design - a case comprised of four separate hexagonal volumes, and immediately shipped it to his South Carolina home, the Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece 'Auldbrass', for installation. William's 'hal' , designed in 2000, singularly ignited the faceted craze in contemporary design, and continues to be one of the most popular tables in history. William was selected to represent Surface magazine at the Salone del Mobile Milano 2004. Ellen Lupton, the curator of the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, in 2006 was asked by Metropolis magazine to compare American and European designers, where she said that William Earle stood out as the American Minimalist. In 2008 his 'Nude Descending Table' was commissioned by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and sold through the museum store. William's New York gallery commissioned his 'Woodcutter's Chaise' for the 2012 International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York City, where it won a Best Design of the Year award from Interior Design magazine. William's work has been published in every design magazine on both sides of the Atlantic, and his work is currently featured as part of the architecture and design program of many major design colleges, including Pratt and the Rhode Island School of Design. At 63, he continues to eschew the opportunities to be mass produced by foreign factories, and hand crafts all of his designs in his South Carolina studio.
