About
Niels August Theodor Kaj Gottlob, long dining or conference table with drawers, Caucasian nutwood, brass, leather, Denmark, 1920s
A very rare and exceptionally long library table designed by Kaj Gottlob (1887-1976), one of the most important Danish architects and designers in the post-war period. The desk is adorned with sculptural legs and carved profiles, one side has six drawers with brass handles and the top is covered with patinated green leather.
The table was designed by Gottlob around 1920 for the Carlsberg foundation. From a young age Gottlob had a passion for the English Arts and Crafts movement. During his studies he combined this passion with his interest in neoclassical architecture, thus arriving to a unique style which is apparent in his early designs. He later turned to Nordic Neoclassicism, having found appreciating for its sober yet contemporary and modern style.
