Large Extendable Art Deco Table by Restall Brown and Clennell

About the Item

Art Deco style table labelled by Restall Brown and Clenel, late 20th century in date. Art Deco is a style of visual arts, architecture and design that first appeared in France just before World War I. It combined modernist styles with fine craftsmanship and rich materials. During its heyday, Art Deco represented luxury, glamour, exuberance, and faith in social and technological progress. Among the Art Deco participants that posterity has chosen are furniture designers Jacques Adnet, Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann and Maurice Dufrene, Jules Leuleu, Victor Horta and Eliel Saarinen, designers specialized in glass René Lalique and Émile Gallé as well as couturiers Erté and Paul Poiret. Art Deco tapering column supports, the extending top in three sections, 100 x 240 cm extending to 300 cm. The bosses on old trees produce the characteristic fissures and markings of 'burr elm' wood.
