Large Marble and Glass Table, After Carlo Scarpa Samo, 1970s
About the Item
Four sculptural marble plinths combine to provide the base for this very large table.
While this table is not the Samo by the Scarpas, it is most certainly based upon it. The “Samo” dining table was designed in 1971 for 'Ultrarazionale' collection by Simon Gavina. The table explicitly shows the strong architectural influences in the pillared base.
Carlo Scarpa (1906-1978) was one of the most important and influential architects of the 20th century. He has been influenced by the materials, landscape and the history of Venetian culture, and by Japan. Scarpa translated his interests in history, regionalism, invention, and the techniques of the artist and craftsman into ingenious glass and furniture design.
At 180cm in diameter the glass top is capable of seating up to 10 people very comfortably - please note we were unable to photograph the item with the 180cm top and so it is pictured with a top measuring 150cm.
Be advised each of these marble plinths weighs somewhere around 90kg, and the glass top, a further 70kg.

- Condition:Minor losses. The glass top is in good condition. The marble plinths are in good condition with some marks, wear, and chips as pictured. There is one loss of a section to the edge of one of the plinth bases as pictured.
