About the Item

Mid-century dining table design influenced by Carlo Mollino. Made of solid wood structure. Top fixed to a central axis in which are to flown legs, finished brass details, Italy, 1950s. Carlo Mollino was an Italian designer, architect, and photographer known for his varied interests and projects. Ranging from well-crafted chairs, tables, and automobile designs to staged erotic portraits of women in his home studio. Born on May 6, 1905 in Turin, Italy, he became interested in art and design from a young age. Early on in his career, Mollino collaborated with his father who ran an engineering company, but by the 1940s, he was creating his own designs. Over the following decades, he designed a number of buildings throughout Turin, including ski lodges, auditoriums, and apartments. Mollino died on August 27, 1973 in Turin, Italy. It was not until after his death that his now famous erotic polaroids were discovered. Today, the artist’s works are held in the collections of the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Brooklyn Museum in New York, among others.
