Mid-Century One-Off Dining or Game Table with Blue Formica Top by Giulio Alchini

About the Item

This outstanding square table, that could be used both as a gaming or dining table, is a unique piece, signed under the top, by artist and designer Giulio Alchini. The use of such a light blue formica together with wood resembles also several furniture pieces by Gio Ponti. The table remains in very good vintage conditions, as the wood was professionally refinished preserving its patina and the formica top is in excellent condition with little wear. Giulio Alchini, born near Trento (Italy) in 1926, was the heir of a family tradition of cabinetmakers. He studied in Venice at Scuola d’Arte dei Carmini. His style was influenced by the works of Henry Moore and Le Corbousier, De Stijl and Piet Mondrian. He divided his research between architecture, scenography, design, painting and sculpture. He presented a side table at Biennale’s decorative art pavillion in 1950. His brilliant carreer was abruptly stopped by his death, in 1958, before he would turn 32.
