About the Item
Handsome Late 20th to Early 21st Century Modern dining table attributed to Bernhardt Cascade comprised of a composite tassel style pedestal base and a round wood veneer inlaid top with black granite Lazy Susan or rotating center tray. This piece has been attributed based upon archived research including online sources, vintage documentation and catalogs, designer literature, and other materials however, it is not signed or marked Bernhardt in any way. It does have serial numbers and sku numbers but we have been unable to verify. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, there are a couple tiny chigger bites on the edge of the granite where it meets the wood top. There are other dings all around the outer edge of wood that almost look purposeful but other than that we have found no outstanding flaws. How cool is that!!?? We would say it’s SUPER COOL!!! A snazzy and convenient place to set the salt & pepper grinders, dinner rolls, or appetizers and spin them around to the needy individual instead of that inconvenient “pass!” And although it’s Modern in style it would be beautiful among your Traditional, Transitional, Hollywood Regency, or Modern Country furnishings and décor. This is exactly the table you have been looking for to complete your dining room, kitchen, breakfast nook, or game room and let me tell you… Tassels are IN right now!!! Bernhardt Furniture was established in 1889 by John Mathias Bernhardt and has been going strong for over 125 years. He spent many years out west in Oregon Territory. After a serious illness, traveling back home to Lenoir, North Carolina and working as a logger in the densely forested foothills of Grandfather Mountain. He went to work for Caldwell Land and Lumber Company and while working there he convinced them to build a railroad to move lumber and supplies. He then purchased his own sawmill and began buying timber. The next step of manufacturing his own furniture followed soon after bringing the birth of Bernhardt Furniture. He became known as a man of integrity, giving back to his community and for producing high quality furniture. A legacy was born. It was carried on and improved upon by his sons, George Bernhardt and John Christian Bernhardt, and eventually his grandson, Alex Bernhardt Sr. Through the years they grew, expanded, diversified, bought other companies, sold other companies, created divisions, and let them go. Two important names in all the comings and goings were Flair and Hibriten. Bernhardt Furniture remains a family owned company with Alex Bernhardt Jr. is now the 4th generation to be involved. They continue John Mathias’ legacy of integrity, high-quality furnishings, and giving back to their community.
