A Monumental Dining Table
About the Item
This monumental 13-foot-long French harvest table embodies the elegance and functionality of French provincial design in the 19th Century. Crafted from rich, solid poplar wood, the table's expansive surface showcases the natural beauty and grain of the timber, enhanced by over a century of use.
The table stands on gracefully curved cabriole legs, a hallmark of French furniture from this period. These legs feature an upper convex curve flowing seamlessly into a lower concave curve, culminating in delicate feet. This design is sophisticated but simple.
Enhancing its versatility, the table includes three leaves, bringing its maximum length to 155"". This table can accommodate large gatherings with ease or be made to fit smaller spaces with a minimum length of 85". This combination of aesthetic appeal and practical design makes the table a timeless centerpiece, perfect for both intimate family meals and grand celebrations.

Chinese Square Dining or "Eight Immortals" Table
Located in Chicago, IL
This sturdy, almost architectural Chinese table is is an excellent example of "scholar's furniture". Scholar's furniture is known for rounded frames that suggest tree trunks and a general lack of unnecessary adornment. The table's floating panel top is held by round corner posts that gracefully transform into square feet as they meet the ground. Arched spandrels connect the legs to the top, suggesting the roof of a building is held up by corner posts. Two drawers are held in the thick waist. The table boasts highly original oxblood lacquer patina, gently rubbed through to the wood over many decades. These tables are sometimes known as "eight immortals...
