René Gabriel Patinated Oak Reconstruction table, France 1950.

About the Item

René Gabriel Patinated Oak Reconstruction table, France 1945. The atmosphere at the Atelier is always vibrant when a piece of furniture by René Gabriel arrives. This oak table, designed by the post-war artist for disaster relief, embodies simplicity, robustness, minimalism, and ingenuity. Many carpenters have interpreted his designs, but these guiding principles remain at the core. The table features a medium-shade solid oak structure with a beautiful patina. It is in very good condition, with a minimalist base that blends rustic and modern styles. It can be fully dismantled, and while there are minor traces of use and slight stains, it maintains a lovely vintage charm. René Gabriel (1890–1950) was a French designer renowned for his clean, logical furniture series, which inspired many post-WWII designers. The ongoing Prix René Gabriel awards modern designs that can be mass-produced. Choosing used mid-century design promotes sustainability, allowing furniture to have multiple lives. These quality pieces often carry a rich history, with signs of wear that reflect their previous owners' stories. Matching dining room chairs from this artist are also available in our listings.
