About the Item

Elegant round baroque table from the early 1900s with top in Ferrarese walnut root and central inlay polished with shellac and wax The table is a 1900s production of the famous elegant Ferrara tables from the 1700s in use in that famous Renaissance period in Italy and the whole world. About Ferrarese Walnut Briar (Ferrara, famous Italian Medieval and Renaissance city): The Ferrarese Walnut briar is made only following man-made modifications. In fact, walnut trees were planted in the rows of vines to support them. To prevent them from growing too much, these walnuts were pollarded, which facilitated the formation of humps on the trunk and suckers on the foot. Today, however, this use is falling into disuse, and therefore the related briars are increasingly difficult to find. The characteristic of the Ferrarese walnut briar is given by the contrast between lighter and darker veins that fit together in a twisted and variegated way. Even the "defects" caused by the incorporation of knots and bark, which cause more or less pronounced holes, are a characterizing element that constitute particular value.
