About the Item
During the 1950s, Melandri's collaboration with Melchiorre Bega continued within the more modern production of "Vittorio Bega Arredamenti," the family business taken over by the architect and his brothers (cat. 23). The circular dining room table, dated ca. 1956,
is an example of a popular model produced by the company with numerous variants in the top and the foot. In our case, the top has at its center a verre églomisé signed by the artist Angelo Bragalini (1913-1994), while the base consists of a slightly truncated conical column in polychrome maiolica by Melandri, decorated with abstract motifs.
Columnar supports of this type are recurrent in Melandri's production; examples include the bases of the counter of the former Barbisio clothing store (1957-58) in the center of Palermo, still in situ 1.
The table is accompanied by a declaration of authenticity by the Bega heirs.
