Walnut Dining Table with Four Leaves by Designer and Craftsman Morris Sheppard
About the Item
Solid walnut dining table by furniture designer and maker Morris Sheppard. This table expands up to 8 feet with four leaves. We believe this was a custom design for the clients as the table also lowers to 17 5/8 inches in height. The legs have a sliding lock that allows the legs to collapse when moved. There was a lot of Japanese influence in the estate and it is likely that at the lower height they served Japanese style dinners with guests seated on the floor. The finish is original. The top was lightly cleaned bur still shows evidence of years of use. With all the moving parts the table will wobble a little if pushed on. The four leaves have a dovetailed solid walnut box for storage. One stretcher on the box is cracked. Contact us for better shipping rates in California.
Morris Sheppard is a graduate of Pratt Institute with a degree in Industrial Design. His work, which brings the sculptor's mastery of form to furniture, is held in many public and private collections, including The Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Harvey Mudd College, and has been exhibited at The Oakland Museum, The Monterey Peninsula Museum of Art, Richmond Museum, Kohler Art Center, Pasadena Museum, and The California Museum of Science and Industry. Private collectors include Jerry Leiber, Neil Young, Warren Beatty, Bert Schneider, Del Chase, Herb Alpert and recently Barbra Streisand. Taken from Morris Sheppard Designs website.

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. One side of the table is slight lower than the other, likely from minor warping of some of the wood. The top has some minor stains, scratches and dings.
