About the Item

Exquisite 17th–18th Century William and Mary Oak Gateleg Table or Antique English Extendable Oval Drop-Leaf Dining Table An exceptional late 17th to early 18th century English William and Mary oak gateleg table, showcasing the fine craftsmanship and timeless elegance of the period. This antique English table features an oval top supported by beautifully ring-turned and block legs, with classic gateleg action on each side. Crafted from solid oak with a rich, warm patina, the table reflects the early fusion of European and Asian influences—particularly in its refined carvings and turned details inspired by japanned furniture of the era. The top consists of three sections: a narrow fixed center panel with two hinged drop leaves supported by double gatelegs ending in block feet. The turned legs are joined by stretchers for added strength and balance. Its proportions and coloration are particularly refined, with oak that has aged and resembles walnut, giving the piece an understated sophistication. Attributed to an English Workshop, William and Mary Period (circa 1690–1720) Recently restored using French restoration techniques, this sturdy antique gateleg table is ready for modern use while retaining its 300-year-old charm. Perfect as a dining table, entry table, or sofa table, it is a piece to be cherished and enjoyed for generations. Dimensions: 53" W × 28.5" H × 22" D (closed) 60.5" L when fully extended Each leaf: 21" A superb example of William and Mary period furniture, this extendable oak gateleg table would beautifully complement Country English, French Provincial, Early American interiors or rustic mountain or lakeside cabins blending rustic warmth with refined historical style.
