Fabulous 410 cm long Dining table and 10 chairs ‘Darby’ by Torbjørn Afdal for Bruksbo Norway, 60s
Torbjørn Afdal (1917-1999) designed several dining tables in different sizes; this is the ‘Darby’ model and is the largest table with four leaves. The oval Darby table is only made with 2 or 4 leaves. This is the one with 4 leaves. When extended, the table is 410 cm long (161.41 Inch). The table is fitted with steel extension rails and supports. The table combined with the 10 matching ‘Darby’ dining chairs with open backrest and padded seats. Torbjørn Afdal was one of Norway’s most prolific designers in the 1950s and 1960s. He was the leading designer at the international company Bruksbo. The table measures 120 cm wide 210 cm long and 73 cm high when not extended. The three dimensions when extended are as follows. Without leaves it is 210 cm (82.67 Inch) oval long. With two leaves the table is 310 cm long (122.04 Inch). The largest size with four leaves, the table is 410 cm long (161.41 Inch). The chairs are 91.5 cm high, 56 cm deep and 47.5 cm wide. The seat height is 45 cm

Torbjørn Afdal
Torbjørn Afdal was one of the leading designers at Bruksbo Tegnekontor and in Scandinavia. Afdal became more well known when his furniture was bought by US first lady Jacqueline Kennedy and by the Japanese Emperor. In later years, he was granted the commission to design the parliamentary and chairs and tables to the courthouse in Oslo.
