18th Century Dutch Gateleg / Drop-leaf Table / Side Table / Center Table

About the Item

Gateleg / Drop-leaf table hand-made in the Netherlands in the late 1700s using oak. The table has a round shape when opened and its size make it perfect for an entry table; nevertheless it can also be placed against a wall or behind a sofa and be opened only when needed. This is the great thing about gateleg tables, they are extremely versatile. The table features three legs, one of which splits to hold the leaf when the table is open. The legs are hand-carved into turnip shape and sit on the original bun feet. The leaves of the table are joined with a hand-wrought iron hinge (pictured). This is a beautifully-made table with great proportions and deep color. Sitting at 30 inches in height it can be sit at and be also functional as well as decorative.
