19th Century Scottish Burr Walnut Sutherland Table by John Taylor of Edinburgh
About the Item
Constructed in a fine quality burr walnut the oval top with drop sides and a moulded edge raised on barley turned legs joined by a bobbin turned stretcher, on scroll trestle feet, the gate legs with porcelain castors. Stamped & No. John Taylor, Edinburgh, D7949.

Artists Biography:
John Taylor set up business as a cabinet-maker in 1825 in West Thistle Street, Edinburgh, and subsequently at 109-10, Princes Street. In 1852 as John Taylor and Son were appointed 'Cabinet-makers and Upholsterers in Ordinary to Her Majesty the Queen'. Their Rosemount Cabinet Works at Gardner's Court were established around 1857 and they continued trading from Princes Street until taken over in 1968. Artists Biography:
Edwards & Roberts was founded in 1845, and had premises at 21 Wardour Street London. By 1892 they occupied more than a dozen buildings in Wardour Street, where they continued to trade until the end of the century. They became one of the leading London cabinet makers and retailers working in a variety of styles, both modern and revivalist. Their business also involved retailing, adapting and restoring the finest antique furniture and there are many examples of their earlier furniture with later embellishments bearing their stamp. Edwards & Roberts specialized in marquetry, inlay and ormolu. Edwards & Roberts was one of the principal London companies working in the taste of the late 18th century. They started business in 1845 and by 1854 were trading as "Edwards & Roberts, 21 Wardour Street, Antique and Modern Cabinet Makers and Importers of Ancient Furniture". Artists Biography:
Born in Hadlow, Kent in 1834, he died at Leatherhead, Surrey in 1913, aged 78. He was trained at the Royal Academy of Arts during 1853 -57 where he won the medal for 'The best drawing from the Life' in both 1854 and 1857. He actively exhibited between 1854 and 1890. He had 30 paintings exhibited at the Royal Academy and specialised in Highland Cattle and general genre paintings. He was also an accomplished portrait painter.
