Charles Bevan for Marsh & Jones Late Kendal. An exhibition quality Gothic Revival Burr Walnut drop leaf Sutherland table with fine inlaid decoration to the top in exceptional original condition. Retaining the original Marsh & Jones paper label.Bevan's association with Marsh & Jones later renamed Marsh, Jones & Cribb of Leeds, led to the production of his famous reclining armchair and an extensive collection of pieces for Sir Titus Salt and Titus Salt Junior's houses, including an elaborate Mediaeval style bedroom suite and a marquetry grand piano.These pieces are currently housed in Leeds City Art Galleries, Temple Newsam House.By 1867 Bevan was no longer associated with the firm. He also worked alongside a number of other furniture manufacturers including Gillows, Holland & Son and J.P Seddon.

Marsh and Jones began making furniture around 1850, originally known as “Marsh and Jones: Medieval Cabinet Makers” of Leeds", becoming Marsh Jones and Cribb in 1867 and exhibited at the Paris Exposition in 1878. They employed Charles Bevan who in 1865 gave them licence to manufacture his successful ‘New Registered Reclining Chair'.
