About the Item

A Rare 19th Century, William IV Period Occasional Table, Having Charming Octagonal Galleried Top, With Various Specimen Wood Veneers Inlaid To Unusual Pattern Design, Raised On Solid yew Wood Turned Central Column With Attractive Carved Decoration, Terminating On Quad Form Base And Elegant Carved Scrolling Feet, With Concealed Castors. This is a really charming mid 19th century occasional table. Some would possibly refer to it as an antique lamp table, or possibly even an antique wine table, however we think it was made to just look extremely pretty and showcase both the cabinet maker who made its skill and craftsmanship, alongside the variety of exotic wood veneers which were now available for use in mid 19th century England. Often the use of specimen wood veneers was a way for a high end workshop to display just how many different exotic wood veneers they had access to and indeed often a specimen wood item could be used almost like a catalogue, ie to show prospective clients what each wood looks like and allow them to choose which they would prefer their item to be manufactured from. We are not so sure about that with this particular table however and think perhaps it was made as a bit of a one off commission for a very wealthy client. The entire table is of the highest quality possible and it oozes both charm and elegance. It is incredibly sturdy and therefore very practical and fit for purpose. It has also remained in excellent condition which is no doubt in part due to the superb quality of its construction, but also probably due to the fact it has been cherished throughout its life.  As with all the items which we offer for sale this table has been inspected by our highly skilled, trained antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish before being offered for sale, ensuring that it is in the best possible condition for immediate placement following purchase. Circa 1840. Height 28.5in. Width 21in. Depth 21in.

19th Century Amboyna Occasional Table
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A delightful 19th century occasional lamp, or wine table, with well figured amboyna circular top and ormolu moulding raised on three elegant ebonized and inlaid turned supports, terminating with triform plateau and elegant sabre feet. Although victorian in date this table draws on a variety of different stylistic features, from a range of different periods. The use of beautiful amboyna veneers, set against ebonised mouldings is very much a 19th century feature however, the contrast created providing both a boldness and elegance all in one. This little occasional table is constructed from excellent timbers and when taking into account the overall quality of construction as well it is clear that it was produced in one of the top cabinet makers workshops of the time. Surprisingly sturdy for such a small article, which is due to the intelligent triple support design, this is a most practical table indeed, perfect for a wide variety of spots around the home, where one can use it to house a lamp, some photo frames or even a nice glass of wine. It is a great size and should fit elegantly into just about spot desired. Overall the condition is good and as with all items which we offer for sale it has received a natural wax polish by our highly skilled, traditional antique furniture...

Late Regency 19th Century Gillows Oak Wine Table
By Gillows of Lancaster & London
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A very good quality 19th century regency period oak wine table, or lamp table, attributed to gillows of lancaster, having shaped tray top with gadrooned, carved, decoration over moulded reverse tapering column with stylised lotus baluster and elegant swept tripod legs with foliate carved decoration. "Attributed To Gillows." This fine quality, charming little table follows a widely recognised design pattern which features in the Gillows Estimate Sketch Books for 16 July 1822, which refer to a "double round cornered top" and then appear again several times throughout the 1820's and 1830's. The designs are often referred to as "Flower Stands", or "Flower Tables" and there are various different itinerations to be found throuout the Regency and William IV periods. Constructed from charming, warm, rich oak veneers this little table is a great example. The carving is crisp and well executed and it retains a good colour and patina. It also remains in excellent condition and has clearly been well loved and well looked after throughout its history. The dimensions are great. Big enough to be practical and functional, but small enough to go just about anywhere around the home and serve a purpose as an antique lamp table, antique bedside table, antique wine table antique...
