About the Item

Antique Empire mahogany and birch salesman sample chest of drawers, circa 1820. With a rectangular birch top, a protruding frieze drawer, two larger lower drawers with flame mahogany and an apron drawer, flanked by columns with gilt bronze capitals and bases. Resting on square graduated legs. The wood has excellent old color. Hand dove tailed drawer construction. These chests were originally used as samples to show to potential customers from which a regular size chest would be made.

Wear consistent with age and use. Part of the brass keyhole on the second drawers down is missing, see photos. On the left side a small piece of wood is missing on the plinth that supports the column. No keys. Minor nicks and furniture mars.
