Mexican Modernist Michael Van Beuren Woven Rope Cord Triangular Table

About the Item

Muebles Austin was founded in 1944 in Mexico City by Austin Sulzburger (Switzerland) and was a successful furniture production company throughout the Mid-20th Century, producing quality pieces of the time, influenced by Don Shoemaker, Michael van Beuren, and Industria Meublera (a designer/entrepreneur from the United States setting up workshops in Mexico, utilizing local craftsmen and materials, drawing on native techniques and forms, and producing a body of work with knock-down construction for ease of export (“especially designed to take back home in your car”) and at affordable price points for both the emergent middle class in Mexico and an audience abroad.) The table offered is a Muebles Austin-produced table that Michael van Beuren designed for Domus, with wonderfully hand-tied and woven rope cord and mahogany-stained wood frame. The table is a true vintage 50's piece, is rare to the market, and has newly added glass for a contemporary functionality and usefulness.
