Pair 1960s Brass Mounted Wood & Iron Stacked Book End Tables, Hart Associates

About the Item

Pair of 1960s Brass-Mounted Wood & Iron Stacked Book End Tables, Hart Associates A bold and imaginative pair of end tables or nightstands, designed to mimic the form of two stacked books, attributed to Hart Associates, circa 1960s. These sculptural tables are executed in a single-piece construction and measure 30 inches high by 27 inches wide and 17 inches deep. The visual impact is immediate: each table features a pair of oversized, book-shaped forms, complete with faux spines and gilt brass bands that create the illusion of bound leather volumes. The "spines" cleverly conceal two full-length drawers, each 27 inches wide by 6 inches high, providing ample storage within the sculptural façade. The tops are finished in black lacquer with angled brass corner mounts, reinforcing the campaign-style aesthetic. The sides and backs are realistically enameled in a parchment-toned finish to resemble aged book pages, adding a touch of trompe-l'œil charm. Each table is raised on a blackened iron base with straight campaign-style stretchers and brass sabots, lending structural integrity and a tailored finish. This pair exemplifies the inventive spirit of Hart Associates, known for their modernist interpretations of classical forms, and their collaborative work with celebrated designer Tommi Parzinger. Visually witty, well-crafted, and highly functional, these tables are ready to place and use in any eclectic, mid-century, or design-forward interior.
