About the Item

A superb, exceptional quality, finely hand-crafted faux distressed stacked book table. Elegant, sophisticated and luxurious, with beautifully aged antiqued finish. Sculptural form, the top depicting two large, oversized books, lift the top of the highest book reveals a large open interior with generous storage, the lower book having an inset concealed drawer with book spine drawer front, offering additional discreet storage. Mounted over an impressive richly sculpted hand forged bronze dore base, consisting of double stretcher joined turned supports. Signed by the artist, Horacio Acuña, 1991. Provenance: Acquired from the impressive estate of prominent Texas businessman, billionaire and philanthropist, the late Lonnie Pilgrim. Lonnie Alfred "Bo" Pilgrim (1928 –2017) was co-founder of Pilgrim's Pride, which at one time was one of the largest chicken producers in the United States. Pilgrim co-founded Pilgrim's Pride when he opened a feed store in 1946 in Pittsburg, Texas. In addition Mr. Pilgrim was principal shareholder in numerous business ventures including Pilgrim's Bank and NETEX Bancorporation. He and his late wife, Patty, became avid antique collectors and traveled the world to furnish their residences with the finest antiques. Versatile. As warm and attractive as it is functional, the piece can be used many different ways, including as an end table, occasional table, cocktail or coffee table, bedside nightstand, lamp stand, low chest or simply placed alone as a stunning decorative object, sure to add a touch of elegant sophistication to any space!
