A marvelous French oak farm table with heavy baluster legs, circa 1870s. The top consists of two great oak slabs joined at the center and capped on either end with a matching piece of oak. In typical French fashion, the table is long and narrow. Rustic construction using wooden pegs and thick joints. The substantial H-shaped stretcher has light molding running the distance on either side that has been worn smooth in some spots by generations of diners' feet. Massive turned baluster legs at each corner have simple incised lines for embellishment. There is a single hidden drawer on one end with an old iron pull, inner dimensions are 19.25" wide, 26.5" long and 2.5" deep, great for storing linens or extra utensils. The floor to apron measurement is 23.5, molding matching that on the stretcher ornaments the edges. A wonderful and warm piece.
