English Oak Refectory Table, Late 17th Century
About the Item
A late 17th century, ca. 1680-1700, English oak stretcher base table with a breadboard ended plank top. Baluster legs support the apron of the table, the apron decorated with fine compass drawn incised carving. Beautiful quarter sawn figure to the boards of the top. Tables like this were used as dining tables together with benches or stools as seating. Good antique condition, with signs of age, especially to the feet and stretchers which have worming and wear from feet resting on the rails. One foot with a rustic splice repair, worming to the feet. Top can be lifted off the base, making it easier to fit through doors.
