About the Item

Fratino / trestle table hand-made in Italy in the late 1800s using oak for the top and chestnut for the base. The table has gorgeous character and proportions, and it is an absolutely show-stopper. The thick, long top features two oak boards mortised in breadboards at both ends. The top has unique, large cracks caused by age and shrinkage of the wood that do not interfere with its integrity, but provide it with a very rustic look. Because of the cracks, the top has bowed a bit, but the curvature is not enough to compromise its functionality. The top sits on the trestle base by fitting into pegs found on top of the two legs. The legs are connected by a thick stretcher that show signs of use and of a life well lived. The stretcher is kept in place by wedges, therefore the whole structure can come apart and take very little space during a move. Overall this is a gorgeous, large table that will fit perfectly in any household with any type of furniture. Its light color give it a modern look, its proportions make it the perfect piece for a large room or a room that needs a statement piece, and its overall character make it perfect for someone that is looking for a great antique.
