About the Item
An English vernacular trestle table circa 1730 with extraordinary wide oak board top joined by breadboard edges over shaped and reinforced trestles with naively carved paw feet, the trestles joined by a stretcher retained by original turned wedges. Probably made by an estate joiner rather than a cabinet maker's shop, as evidenced by the differing thicknesses of the two trestles, indicating the use of available timber. A handsome table full of character, and a useful size for a breakfast table, a library table or a large desk.
