Antique Nutwood and Burl Nutwood Tilt-Top Chess Table with Nautilus Shell Inlay

Rare design and great looking, handcrafted wooden chess table with unique natural patterns and colors. This midcentury era chess table (with built-in lamp in the base) has some of the most beautiful, natural colors ever. We don't know what type of Brasilian nutwood this table is made of, but this shape and these great colors will combine beautifully with all kinds of styles and materials. The design, the warm colors and especially the wonderful tree knot pattern in this all-handcrafted table are an absolute joy to look at. And with the light switched on, only the cores of the tree knots turn into a beautiful, deep red and almost purple color. We tried to shoot some photos with the light in the base of this table switched on, but the result is not at all what it looks like in real life (so much better looking than in our photos). This remarkable table with its amazingly hand-carved details and superb claw feet is extra rare, because it is made in the Chippendale Style. And the craftsmanship that was put into creating this antique would make Thomas Chippendale himself proud. Because of the design, the quality of the make and the beauty of the materials, we believe this piece can only have been made by one of the European top makers from that era. By first pulling the rear legs out and then folding the top, this Chippendale table can be turned into a beautiful games table with a fine felt surface.
