About the Item

A French Louis XV tric trac game table from circa 1790 made of walnut and walnut veneer, with reversible top, marquetry and cabriole legs. This exquisite French Louis XV tric trac game table, dating back to around 1790, is a testament to the artistry and craftsmanship of the period. Crafted from rich walnut and adorned with walnut veneer, it embodies the elegance and sophistication synonymous with Louis XV style. The table boasts a reversible top that's as functional as it is beautiful. On one side, you'll find a captivating marquetry design, an intricate tapestry of wood depicting a checkerboard that showcases exceptional craftsmanship and detail. Flip this top and you unveil a green felt surface. This side serves as the perfect platform for hosting card games or puzzles. Below, a tric trac (backgammon) interior. This classic game table feature allows for hours of leisure and entertainment. With four small drawers for storing game pieces and a reversible top, it's an ideal choice for those who appreciate both the artistry and the joy of gaming. The cabriole legs are quintessentially Louis XV, adding a graceful, curvaceous touch to the table's overall design. In your home, this table can serve a dual purpose: as a functional gaming table for family and friends to enjoy, and as a remarkable piece of art and history that enhances your decor. Whether in a living room, library, or game room, it's a conversation starter and a center of entertainment, where both aesthetics and leisure converge. Embrace the allure of this timeless masterpiece, where past and present unite in both form and function.

The lower section comprises two thin drawers, decorated with flower backplated hardware, above two carved doors with shaped recessed panels. This set of double doors opens to reveal two inner shelves. The ensemble is raised on scrolled feet in the front, connected to one another with a beautifully scalloped skirt, carved with a delicate foliage motif in its center. The fluted side posts, echoed on the central beam separating the double doors, are reminiscent of the taste of the Louis XVI era for such motifs. With its clean lines, subtly balanced by the gentle curves of the pediment, skirt and legs, and warm patina of the cherry wood, this French 1790s...
