Exceptionnal Daté Kan Volcanic Stone Low Table, Kaaron and Okurayama Studio

About the Item

Low table " LAC" Daté Kan volcanic stone Limited Edition Drawing by Kaaron studio Collaboration with Okurayama Studio Dimensions : 45 (H) x 222 (W) x 73 (D) cm Daté Kan Stone is extremely rare and precious and has rarely been used for sculptural design before. It is known for its unique colors and its powerful aesthetic vibrations. Datekan is classified as two-pyroxene andesite and is unearthed from brown soil in a columnar jointing form. Rough stones of Datekan are taken out from the layer of the quarries or round-weathered rough stones of Datekan are unearthed at quarries before being shipped. One of the big features of Daté Kan is that each expression differs widely, depending on the place to be unearthed. The texture of globe-shaped weathered stones assume a black color or ocher color, while those taken out from joints are reddish brown, having various natural patterns Okurayama Studio, LOCI Mt. Zao is one of the best known place for mountain asceticism in the Tohoku Region. Mt. Okurayama, commanding a view of its magnificent shape, has a quarry which produces such as megaliths-extending well beyond 5 meters-and rough stones-in a form far beyond the creation of human beings-from the brown earth. You will have a feeling of awe towards the landscape, which has nurtured life over a few ten thousand years, if you see the serene aspect of innumerable stones in a place where the bedrock is elevated and the stratum is curved. You will feel the air of the Primitive era, a long time ago when the distance between nature and humans was closer, if you stand by stones whose expression change with pelting rains, winds from Mt.Zao and mists hanging over at dawn. The word LOCI derives from Latin word genius loci, a combined word of genius and loci, which meanings are the spirit and land, respectively. The word translated as "an earth spirit" contains the most valuable feeling of Okurayama Studio, which is to look after materials being provided with the land, in other word loci. Okurayama Studio is a mining place for Datekan (Date Kan-muri Ishi Stone) located in Marumori Town, Japan. Okurayama Studio has been carrying out stone services in Miyagi Prefecture, since the founder Chozo Yamada moved from Hyogo Prefecture for the purpose of constructing the bridge of Aobajo, a castle noted in connection with the Date domain, as a stonemason in 1887. Mining at Mt. Okurayama started in 1925. Datekan is now in the limelight among sculptors - with its unique sculptural form and its beautiful rust color. The project of Okurayama Studio which started 30 years ago is still being preserved under the concept of not only receiving the blessings of nature, but to remain powerful stones at the mountain and to repay the mountain via increasing trees and plants.
